Hallie has a big decision to make. She doesn?t know if she should live with her father, stepmother and stepsister in a beautiful country town Maplewood, in Oregon, or move back in with her mother and stepfather (and in the weekends with her stepbrother) in Venice, California, near L.A. where she grew up before her parents split up. Both places are very special to her in their own ways. She can?t decide what to do. And she must tell her mother the next day!
Last summer she was gone to Oregon, to her father. He lives with Jane (Hallie?s stepmother) and Molly (Hallie?s stepsister) in a farmhouse with one TV station and no cinema?s! But Fuzzy the dog lives there too, Hallie loves to play with him. This time Hallie has met Kate, who is become a good friend of Hallie. Hallie has always dancing in Venice but in Maplewood was no ballet?. Kate has learn Hallie horse riding, Hallie and Kate became good friends. Last year Hallie went to school in Maplewood. She loves school, it was a very nice school. She went into the basketball team, the same team as Kate. Barn dancing was something new for Hallie, but she really likes it. And she loves being with her dad.
When Hallie got her period, her mother wanted to celebrate this. They were gone to Hawaii. This time Hallie should never forget! When she was home (in Venice), she met Frank, her stepfather, who now lives at their home too. In the weekends Dixon went to Venice too, he?s the son of Frank, and Hallie?s stepbrother (he has the same age as Hallie). He always slept in Hallie?s bedroom, when he was in Venice. Hallie was very angry about this, she had never know this! Now he must sleep in Hallie?s mother?s hobbyroom. Dixon was always watching TV and everyone thinks he is very sweet and special. Hallie and Dixon fightened every time. In Venice Hallie has also a very good friend, Chloe. Chloe?s parents come from Africa. When Hallie went to church with the parents, sisters and brothers from Chloe, everyone there was black except she and Robert, a friend of Chloe?s brother, but everyone were very nice to them. The church was very beautiful. Later Chloe told Hallie, Robert likes her very much, then Hallie blushed, she likes him too! Sometimes Dixon wasn?t very bad, sometimes he was a very nice boy, but they fightened together when they watch TV or something. Hallie loves being with her mother. Every friday night they go out together, and they have time to talk about everything. And in Venice, she can dance! Chloe also dances, she is a very good dancer. Every summer Hallie and Chloe went to ballet camp.
Hallie doesn?t know what to do? and today she must know it! Her mother has always said, she must listen to her body. Then she hears a voice deep inside her began to whisper: ?Stay. Stay in Venice. Stay in California.? She listened, and the voice grew louder and louder. Now she knows what to do! She began to dance, she went to the living room.
